Anatomy of a Sigh

April 25, 2026

standing under
the shower
watching the water flow…
what’s it about betrayal
that excites us so

striking Pluto
out from the planets
not realising
when I stopped being
part of your universe

deadheading roses
in one fell swoop
after our fight
he sends me
a shrink’s number

wondering
whether to lie yet again
about my bruises…
I spot a road sign saying:
“No U-turn”

this winter too
the stubborn snow
doesn’t thaw …
now we sleep in
separate bedrooms

arranging broken pieces
of a pot in another
I wonder
if this is what
life is all about

signalling storm
the sky turns fiery red…
I watch
as the house of cards
comes tumbling down

falling apart
stitch by stich
I sit by the window
and sew a patch
on the quilt
