Vulnerability Empowerment And Art -Rohini Mani

January 25, 2021

Artwork by Women Remains Underrepresented across the world. The unequal representation of women in art history was not a coincidence.

Representation of women in Art is undoubtedly connected to the status of women in society. The idea that woman should only be involved with household work and motherhood dominated many communities until the late 19th century.
In many cultures, the exclusion of women and deliberate discrimination continues.

Rohini Mani composes Art to find herself, explore alternative narratives and express social equity. Hailing from Chennai, India, She started her formal art education at Madras College of Fine Arts in 1999. She completed her Masters in Painting at S N School of Arts and Communication, the University of Hyderabad later.

Have you ever bought a book for its cover? Rohini creates beautiful book wrappers.  They are works of Art that stand unique and unparalleled. She was honoured with the ‘Publishing Next Industrial Award’ 2019 for the best wrapper in all Indian languages, for the book ‘Peruvali’ authored by Mr Sukumaran and published by Kalachuvadu Publishers.

The works I make are materials enclosed around ideas that offer themselves to me, asking for a voice. My imagination becomes the language through which I come to an understanding without words.

Rohini Mani

Rohini says that she has battled to overcome society’s challenges through her strength and the language she is comfortable with, and undoubtfully that is her Art.
Because she feels it is better to express rather than suffering it in silence.

FemAsia Wishes Rohini Mani continued success in her artistic endeavours and career.
