Stripped

July 25, 2020

Stripped of your beauty,
Stripped of your name.
Stripped of everything that you thought you would have,
Stripped of your freedom to go back to your place of origin.
Stripped of the friendship you have with your people,
Stripped of your liberty.
Stripped of the liberty to speak out,
Stripped of the freedom to honour your mother.
Stripped of the freedom to take decisions in your home.
Stripped of the freedom to belong to a family though you exist in it.
Stripped of the liberty to exercise your love.
Stripped of the dignity that you once had.
Stripped of the time to attain to yourself,
Stripped of the beauty that you once had,
Stripped of the liberty to decide for your children.
Even those who have been stripped before,
Have yet not been taught the lesson of letting others to be clothed with all the adornments that they need as women,
Forever stripped, forever stripped.
Woman, will you forever remain stripped?
And forever and ever strip others of the bounties of this life?
Woman, stop stripping!
Woman, prevent being stripped!
Woman, stop stripping others!
I for one, will clothe myself with the liberty that God created me with,
With the liberty, that I was born with,
As I sprang out of that dark and lonely world called the womb,
As I sprang out of the entrails of that great woman,
Like a lion that is after its prey,
Like a squirrel that knows its strength is showcased by its ability to skip,
I sprang out with that cry announcing my freedom to live!
So shall I walk in freedom!
I shall not be stripped!
I shan’t be stripped,
And my sisters, my daughters, my daughters-in-law, and every woman I come across shall not be stripped!
