My World

July 25, 2023

my world has
three bedrooms
two bathrooms
and one kitchen
but I know of things
that happen
in your world too
I know the days
when your boss scolds you
when he threatens to fire you
you come storming inside
slamming the door
shouting my name
those days absolutely nothing
tastes good to you
nothing pleases you
I hide in the corner
begging you to stop
wiping my bleeding nose
and your hands
stifle my screams
but you can’t
hold back my tears
your hands are powerless
when it comes
to pushing-in my tears
trapping them inside me
like my screams
throughout your shouting
I concentrate on
imagining my tomorrow
and hoping that it won’t be
a replica of today
but I see myself
waking up before you
and playing doctor
as I cover up my blue-black eyes
hide the bruises on my arms and legs
try to cure my aching bones
that have carried the weight
of my regular losses for too long
I see myself
making up my mind
not to feel
just get to work
or simply escape
run away forever
but all I do is hold my breath
until the door shuts behind you
and I am left alone in my prison of
three bedrooms
two bathrooms
and one kitchen.
