I’ve Begun to Find Love in Hopeful Places

July 25, 2026

In the arms of non-perfunctory hugs and kisses.
In allowing space and time for ugly thoughts.
In the extension of your body by a few centimeters in asana practice.
In the thankless service of picking up trash.
In trusting yourself to do things both physical and mental that you once deemed impossible.

In the eyes of the person, you surprise by your presence when you weren’t expected.
In the resurfacing of people you thought had taken the exit door.
In rejecting the notion that time is inflexible.
In watching the sun break the surface of the sky.
In the privilege of re-visiting purpose, often.

In crafting a life that you no longer feel the need to explain.
In the cleaning out of a freezer together.
In airport pickups. In creating porous boundaries.
In basil seeds that have become large plants.
In discovering that you still have layers to uncover about the people you’ve known your entire life.

In finding other divisible atoms who want to go off course with you.
In the safety of cuddles in the middle of a meltdown.
In the act of being fully present.
In meals cooked tirelessly. In meme wars.
In trusting others to support you in hard things and times.

In time zones straddled just to talk for 10 minutes.
In flights bought and taken for you.
In books recommended.
In public acknowledgement by people, you deeply admire and want to be more like.
In the demands for more of your time

In the act of donating blood and platelets.
In the cockroach becoming the symbol of defiance.
In the first rain petrichor. In the act of singing loudly.
In letting grief wash over, you.
In slowing down to catch a breath.
In kicking the proverbial ladder out of the way because the snake that bit your ass had a valid point to make.
