In the Small Hours

the small hours
beginning with song
this afterlight
whispers of healing
softly, softly…

will you hold on
the way leaves do
through the winnowing
of every raindrop
upon your heart

sometimes
there is a voice
reaching back to me…
as if you remain

Joanna Ashwell, a writer from the UK.
