From An Old Book

April 25, 2021

It must have washed up on the shore

from the river

that dead body.

Someone had

arranged death

for him.

The dead man is

walking from the shore

towards me.

It may take

three more minutes

for him to reach me.

Two minutes

are over.

He nears me.

Where did they come from

these cavalry men!

They take him away from there.

There is a palace at that place.

The guards open

the palace gates.

How could this be possible!

Soldiers and citizens

welcome him with garlands.

A woman offers him wine

or his favourite beer to drink.

Another one

brings apples.

Surprise!

A cat comes there

and asks him

“Who are you?”

Amidst all that

one said

“Have you forgotten Hon’ble Minister

that he is the lazy King

of our Empire”

and added

“Because he was always sleepy

we sent him to bathe in the sea.

But he slept

there too”.

That’s how

the story read

from an old book

ended.
