Capturing Life – Raghunath Sahoo

April 25, 2019

Art is used to exploring and deconstructing social boundaries. Art is a catalyst for change in any society.

Raghunath Sahoo from Bhubaneswar, India is known for his brilliant watercolour works. His artworks show real-life scenes, people, children and still life.

He is a master when it comes to the use of light and shade. He says anything extraordinary which is often overlooked by the eyes becomes the subject of his paintings.

Raghunath’s sketches include day to day life, portraits of people and enchanting sceneries. We at FemAsia are happy to showcase some of Raghunath’s best paintings.

He is inspired by the designs of the revered Odisha- based artist, Late Muralidhar Tali. Raghunath describes Tali’s paintings as sheer magic.

Raghunath has won several national and international awards. Art is not merely for the pleasure of decorative purpose but to actively engage in social and political changes.

Art matters more than it is sometimes credited. But Sahoo feels that often art and painting are underrated in his part of the world.

Thus he finds it challenging for someone who would want to pursue painting as a career.

The world isn’t one-dimensional or monochrome. Art helps us see the world through others’ eyes.

Thus it makes it easier for expanding our horizons.

Sahoo carries a million colours of human feelings on his palette and gives them life through the dance of his brushes in the canvas.

As they say, Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.

We wish Raghunath Sahoo all the very best in his future endeavours.
