Shadows in Grey Light

October 25, 2024

Day folds into night
she holds herself still
the sharp angular lines
of his cheekbones

and the fire flares in the hearth –
orange-tinged blue flames
his temper burning fast and hot
like the gidgee wood he mills.

don’t pull that sullen face son
beware his mood…
Mother and son
wait…
for a new dawn
