I take great pleasure in inviting you all to the very first edition of FemAsia Magazine.
I am more than delighted, excited, and elated to see the Launch of FemAsia.
Some time ago, I did a painting, acrylic on canvas.
Imagine, beneath an intense azure sky; the emerald sea dwells mysterious like an unsolved puzzle.
Nearby abides an exotic rock. The white sand beach spreads beyond the horizon.
Some of you might have guessed, yes, it was a painting inspired by the mesmerising landscapes of Scotland.
On the shore, there is a small fishbowl, and a woman is swimming within.
This beautiful clear glass bowl is limiting the woman from visualising and enjoying the universe spread-out.
I named it ‘FreeDoom’.
Yes,
Some of us, women across many communities are suppressed in the name of Religion and Culture.
Some of us are captured and commodified in the name of Liberty and Beauty.
Some of us are cocooned in our own little prisons refusing to read widely, think deeply or, react wisely.
The Neo-Liberal world seals women’s body with an expiry date. It tells you what to wear and what not to wear.
It decides and influences your freedom if there is any at all.
It has succeeded in creating an illusion of success, beauty and freedom.
We strongly felt that an Alternative Voice should emerge with a special focus on Asian Women.
That is how the idea of FemAsia was conceived.
2017 had been a long year, with planning the Magazine, holding discussions, getting articles, building and personalising the website, long sleepless hours of editing and selecting images and the designing the layout.
We also managed to build a strong network of contributors for FemAsia who came forward to enrich the magazine with their stories, experience and knowledge.
“You don’t have any other society where the educated classes are so effectively indoctrinated and controlled by a subtle propaganda system – a private system including media, intellectual opinion forming magazines and the participation of the most highly educated sections of the population. They set up and maintain a system of doctrines and beliefs which will undermine independent thought and prevent a proper understanding and analysis of national and global institutions, issues, and policies.” Noam Chomsky says in his book Language and Politics
We pledged to allow Independent Thought to flow freely within FemAsia Magazine.
We decided to talk about the Untalked.
FemAsia is expecting to speak through many channels, such as Culture, Politics, Beauty, Health, Spirituality, Poetry, Films, Art, Food, Travel etc
FemAsia is not for Women alone.
I personally believe that any issue affecting the women will affect the entire society.
Likewise, an issue affecting the society will affect women too.
So FemAsia welcomes male readers and contributors to join us in our journey.
Ceaseless days of work, labour, commitment and passion have borne fruits today.
I thank my fellow Editors, Manager, Creative Designers, Writers and all the Well-wishers for putting your tireless efforts and goodwill to make this dream a reality.
